Pushing the Rainbow
- MOM: skype is not working it says sound card problem
- ME: Can you try to restart your computer? Do you know how to do that?
- MOM: no i dont please help
- ME: ok, do you see the colorful button on the left bottom that looks like a warped rainbow window in a circle? click that.
- MOM: okay is that all?
- ME: No, that would be too easy. You have to select an arrow that’s on the bottom right of the little window thing that popped up. Click “restart.”
- MOM: OH NO WHERE ARE YOU
- ME: Sorry, I accidently clicked “restart” myself, that was embarrassing
- MOM: i am pushing the rainbow but nothing pops up what does that mean
- ME: Nothing?
- MOM: no i cant see a window popping up after clicking rainbow. this reinforces my dislike for computers
- ME: Um… you can try turning off your computer and turning it back on.
- MOM: are you ready to walk me through that too?
- ME: …. Ok. Is there a button on your computer that has a green light coming from it?
- ME: or a blue light
- ME: or just any color of light?
- MOM: blue lights are all across the top of keyboard
- ME: ….
- ME: Is there something that says “power”? Or has a picture of a circle with a vertical line through part of it? Like a Pac-Man that’s on its back with a closed mouth?
- MOM: yes on the button
- ME: YEAY! [dancing emoticon]
- MOM: how did you do that
- ME: There are emoticons on Skype that you can insert. But let’s not deal with that right now. Ok, press the button to turn off the computer.
- (five minutes later)
- ME: hello?
- (two minutes later)
- ME: I should have told you how to turn it back on.
